Disabled Woman Loses Life Due to House Fire

On Tuesday morning, in Strathona Park, the Rumpel family faced a horrific tragedy when fire struck their home, engulfing the property in flames. While Thomas Rumpel, a geologist, escaped the fire with serious injuries with his 20 year old son, who was in stable condition at the hospital, 58 year old Brenda Jeanne Rumpel lost her life in the fire. Due to a handicap, Brenda was confined to a wheelchair, a disability that her loving family had taken many steps to make easier, such as installing elevators, ramps, and renovating the kitchen, and up until that day, she hadn't taken a serious loss due to the impairment. But, sadly, the amount of smoke from the fire stopped her from being able to evacuate, taking $700,000 worth of damage on the home and her life, the only thing still standing being the garage, filled with cars the father-son pair worked on together. Brenda was described by many neighbours as being a wonderful person, so I offer my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of this woman. Here is a link to her guest book, where you can read some of the moving messages from friends and co-workers of Brenda. Here is the original article.
